Advanced Chart for Option Sellers: Premium, GEX & Expected Move

How covered-call and CSP sellers use Stock Details → Advanced Chart to compare strike × expiry premium, IV cushion, and dealer GEX on one price chart.

Who this is for

Advanced Chart is built for option sellers — covered-call writers, cash-secured-put sellers, and wheel traders who need to compare credit, cushion, and dealer context without bouncing between the screener, heatmap, and a separate chart.

Open any ticker → Advanced Chart (/stock/{symbol}/advanced-charts-light). A first-visit How to use tour walks through the seller workflow; reopen it anytime from the chart footer.

What you see on the canvas

LayerWhat it tells a seller
PriceDaily history + live spot in the header
OptionsStrike × expiry premium grid forward from today (CC or CSP)
EMIV expected-move cone — implied range by horizon
GEXDealer gamma bands by strike (educational, not a signal)

Layers toggle independently in the footer. Your choices persist in the browser.

Options grid — pick your credit

  1. Turn on Options in the footer.
  2. Choose CC if you sell covered calls, CSP if you sell cash-secured puts.
  3. Each cell is one strike × expiration. Color follows delta (greener = farther OTM).
  4. Zoom in to read labels — they appear progressively: premium → delta → strike → expiry as the cell gets larger.
  5. When earnings is within 7 days, the nearest expiry column highlights amber (header + soft wash) — same cue as Options Heatmap.

Why sellers use it

  • Compare expirations — see whether the weekly or monthly pays enough for the delta you accept.
  • Anchor to price — the grid sits on the same y-axis as spot, so “how far OTM” is visual, not mental math.
  • Spot earnings risk — amber columns flag the expiry that sits on or nearest the next report.
  • Pre-screener scan — shortlist strikes on-chart, then refine in the CC or CSP screener.

Expected move — cushion check

Toggle EM to draw the IV-implied upper and lower bounds forward from spot.

  • Covered calls: many sellers prefer strikes above the upper cone for the target expiry.
  • CSPs: many sellers prefer strikes below the lower cone for assignment entry with cushion.
  • The cone recalculates with live spot — recheck after a sharp intraday move.

Pair EM with the premium grid: you can see both how much credit a strike pays and whether it sits inside or outside the implied range.

GEX — dealer positioning (optional)

Toggle GEX for violet (positive) and orange (negative) dealer gamma bands.

  • Useful after you have a premium shortlist — sanity-check whether you are leaning into a known wall.
  • CSP sellers often watch put-heavy zones below spot; CC sellers watch call walls above.
  • With Options + GEX both on, each cell splits: GEX on top, premium on the bottom. Historical GEX fades on the left so the forward premium grid stays readable.
  • Expiry headers show weekday + date + DTE and sit on the real calendar dates on the time axis.

GEX is educational context, not a buy/sell signal. For a full strike × expiry dealer map, see GEX Heatmap (Maxx) or free Strike GEX.

Recommended seller workflow

  1. Open Advanced Chart on your ticker.
  2. Enable Options (CC or CSP) → use scroll/pinch to zoom until premiums are readable (the default view stays near spot so labels fit).
  3. Check for an amber expiry column if earnings is inside a week.
  4. Turn on EM → confirm strikes sit outside the cone you want.
  5. Optional: add GEX → check dealer bands on the same strikes.
  6. Log the trade in Trade Tracker or pull the contract in the screener.

Chart controls

  • Timeframes (5D, 1M, 6M, …) — default 6M balances history and forward grid.
  • Line / Candle — line is default for overlay readability.
  • Vol, SMA 50, SMA 200 — optional trend context under the price series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Advanced Chart on Stock Details?

Open any ticker’s Stock Details page and choose Advanced Chart in the left panel — or go to /stock/SYMBOL/advanced-charts-light. First visit shows a seller-focused tour; use How to use in the footer to reopen it.

Why don’t I see all labels on every cell?

Labels appear as you zoom in, one metric at a time by importance: premium, then delta, then strike, then expiry. Widen the window or zoom the chart until the text fits.

CC vs CSP on the chart — which should I use?

Match what you sell: CC for covered calls when you hold shares, CSP for cash-secured puts when you want entry or wheel assignment. The grid colors by delta either way.

Can I show GEX and options premiums together?

Yes. Enable both GEX and Options — cells split with GEX on top and premium on the bottom; historical GEX bands stay on the left of the forward grid.

What does the amber expiry column mean?

When the next earnings date is within 7 days, Advanced Chart highlights the closest expiration in amber (header pill and soft column wash) — the same earnings-risk cue as Options Heatmap. Turn on Options so the chart can read the earnings date from the chain.

How is this different from Options Heatmap?

Options Heatmap is a full strike × expiry table on Stock Details. Advanced Chart overlays premiums on price history with optional EM and GEX — better when you want spot, cushion, and credit on one canvas.
